ARS 2008/2009 Contests
Contest 1 - Tomahawk Challenge
(Contest ends June 2009)
The "Tomahawk Challenge" is to build an Estes D-Region Tomahawk kit (#2037) and
modify it any way you want while still keeping the original length and shape
using the original plastic fins, plastic molded booster and forward sections and fly
it to the highest altitude. The
Tomahawk will accept up to a 38mm motor mount. The altitudes need to be
reported the day of the launch or confirmed by another club member if the
rocket is later recovered and still has the altitude data available. Commercially available altitmeters are the only altitude measurement accepted, no home built ones due to the calibration required for accurate altitude data.
The prize for this contest is still being
determined but will either be a trophy, rocket kit, or a one year ARS
membership and will be handed out at the meeting following the end of the contest. I have
listed all participants that want to participate in
this contest. If you want to participate I can provide the first kit to any participant for $20 or you can purchase one
from a local Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby regularly offers a 40% off coupon which will bring this kit down to around $22.00.
The kit retails for $35.99.

Contest 3 - Wackiest Rocket Challenge
The "Wackiest Rocket Challenge" is to come up with and fly the most unique
or wacky rocket. This contest is completely subjective and will be voted on
at the end of the year by the club members. I will post photos of the entries
on the web site so that everyone can determine the "wackiest" one. Things that
I have seen flown in the past include a porta potty, a cactus, a carrot, a
triangular Fed-Ex box, a pencil, a spool, and a crooked rocket. Here is your
chance to show off your creative side. The rockets can be any size and motor
range.
